    would you bother playing solo?

I dont play solo even now, so probably not

        I barely play it.

And if it wasn't for mmr, I probably wouldn't touch it at all.

I play unranked solo all the time. It's the quickest way to get into a competitive game. Are you saying it's not worth it because pub teams are disorganised masses of angry teens? I'm willing to agree with that, but then running with a proper team all the time is less convenient.

Maybe a couple here or there, but everyone had to start out solo and made friends as they went along.

I think there would be a lot more stacks, TMM would be more prominent and the "unprofessional" team matches would actually mean something to people. I think that Valve could have made this a much more team oriented game if they didn't bring in rating but then again people will always find something to cry about.

Lol that's a really nice thought really. If you only received a rating if you committed with a team on captain's mode.

As it stands most people don't treat rank any different from normal games in the past.

                        Thats simply not true.

If you mean by currently comparing ranked games to unranked games, then yes ranked games clearly are of higher quality on average.

But that's mostly because people see unranked as a place to dick around now. Back before ranked exist there were mirrors of the type of players you see now. MMR grinders now were stat wh0res back then and etc.

And I said most. I'm sure currently some 5-7k players take their MMR seriously but a huge chunk of players from 0~5k pretty much still play it the same way they would've before the rating was introduced.

Remember the time before MMR when winrate was the basis of your skill? I wasnt there.

Win rate, levels and win-loss difference.

I know the last one doesn't sound any different from winrate but I had friends comparing them all the time.
