medal is linked to mmr.
mmr can be found in stats tab of your in-game profile.
each star is roughly equal to 140 mmr range.
also it will always show the medal for your peak mmr, so even if you lose 300 games in a row the medal and stars will stay the same.

Hi guys i've played 3 ranked gamea already since my medal showed up. However, my medal star remains the same despite of losing those 3 games.
