We wish it was that easy. Getting the data is not hard. Rebuilding the entire website is.
Our website is built off of Replay Parsing and In-game Client Requests. To switch to the API will require some difficult decisions.
We are going to take the weekend to think about our options. I'm not sure if we will continue or not.
Two totally different data sets. Do you merge them? Do you keep them completely separate? How does that impact page designs? Can you show your personal page with both on it? etc etc
The questions are really endless - every page on the website will have to be rethought.
Midway, I appreciate everything you guys have done on DB and hope you can guys find a resolution to work through this mess. I played CS religiously back in the day and also loved GotFrag. Out of curiosity, are most of the GF guys working on DB with you?
Please don't give up and let this fantastic site go to waste :(
Hope you guys are able to get back up and running. I miss being able to see how my stats changed after each match.
@sunjo - Jason Coene and I are old GotFrag founders. Beyond that we added two new people Tharuler and Sabina.
I love dotabuff, I appreciate all the effort you guys put into it and I hope you decide to give it another try and not shut it down.

I feel some sympathy for you, but what you posted following the privacy changes has done you no favours whatsoever. It was grossly unprofessional. Valve are not simply going to bend over for you when you were scraping your data in an unsupported way and now you will likely never have a good working relationship with them. Building your site using the data you did was a risk you took to get there first. You may well have burned your bridges and if you do shut down another site will provide the same service you used to.
Think carefully about your next move.

Bro, you guys are really overthinking this. Yeah they are different data sets, but you are
unsure of what to do with them - merge or keep them separate, just pick one?? That's just a matter of
design isnt it?

Was really annoying not to easily browse my recent games and check out my opponents so I hope the transition to the WebAPI goes well or that there will be an alternative to Dotabuff shortly.

suck it up! you guys knew what you are doing and even wanted to make money out of it. no one cares if you quit or not. new projects will arise. you wanted to make big cash with an investment that was not approved by valve since the start.
every game uses an api to deploy data. HoN suffered at the start because of ppl like you who got their data via manually designed requests that are a pain in the ass for the serveradmins.
HoN did close their stats-deployment back then to improve the api.
now there are many sites that run smooth with a hon-api without ddosing their server.
there will be many sites that use the webapi that will be improved anyway.
so who rly cares about dotabuff. it is a fucking company, nothing more.

If its about expense, I feel that you surely will make any money back with the premium system if you can make the site what it was before and better.
I believe you can find the way to continue to get data not using shitty webapi. Keep up the good work!
Its DB's own fault. Dont try to gain money from Valves data. Easy as that, maybe you can do that with Riot but Valve actually cares for his players/their datas
you realize you didnt have to pay money herp derp. Like they have said before how much money they have sunk into this site and its been free yet all I see is you cry like a 4 year old cause you are taking valve's side yet they haven't made a public statement on this issue. Valve would rather watch everyone cry and just say hey this will blow over and people will then buy out items in the store.
I really hope you guys will be able to rebuild with the web api, if you do i know atleast me +4 friends will buy Dotabuff+ we love what you guys have provided us this far and we love what you where going to provide with DB+..

They are quick to respond to people that have a lack of knowledge of what it is like to run a game, or a game server, but won't respond to posts like Aschenpudgel. Typical after playing the victim card and posting emails in an attempt to spam valve for revenge.
