VHS (3.7k+) is the top 8% of the player distribution
I wouldn't worry about not making the cut if you are a new player, it took me a while to reach VHS and now I'm almost 5k. Always play to improve and one day you will be in VHS. I recommend watching streamers as a start to see how someone who is better than you plays.
Play the game to win and for enjoyment. If you are focused on just raising you MMR you will do neither.
Oops you wanted advice from 5k players that is just definitely not me.
Pretty much you need to play well and make good picks and keep a winning attitude to see mmr gains.
It's hard though, sometimes you want to tilt at something utterly horrible your teammate does.
Did an ability draft last night and had Atrophy Aura and Duel. +1000 damage later it should have been gg except I was a noob and bought helm of the Dom instead of vlads with desolator - and I found out the guy who kept casting Decreptify on the guy I was dueling was my own freaking team member not some one saving his teammate. It literally lost us the game.
Every 2k player makes a smurf and they all get to VHS, you shouldn't really focus on that. If you're a VHS player you will be there once you calibrate for ranked.
