Not all builds work in all skill brackets.
I could win games with brown boots and casual 10k gold in ur bracket.
Not saying dagon is bad though
I've played in high skilled about 4x using my friends account when i went over.. i still did better with Tauren-Dagon than any other recommended builds by guides. This has been my issue since Dota 1, about 7 years ago, when Tauren and Batrider were introduced.
I really don't know much about Dota 2 systematics so i am unaware about how to move up brackets and stuff.
Not all Heroes benefit dagon and ethereal regardless of the easy burst. For example, Dagon doesn't benegit Sanking over a blink dagger; same with Legion. Just because it gives chances for a burst kill doesn't mean it fits a specific hero. With Tauren, it's different.. his ulti can't fully kill all the time and it just gives a higher chance of a successful combo on Tauren's part.
Ethereal isn't something i see as a core for me btw.
With me, i'm ok with having level 1 or 2 dagon during mid game.. after i just go for the situational items like BKB, tank items.... unless it's safe for me to level up dagon to something higher.
Centaur is a hero which main power is to keep your allies alive and can initiate beautifully with his stun. Sure you get to feel like you are doing some damage with dagon but the drawback is you dont get that main power of him.
Well maybe your mindset is too old school not saying its bad tho, but DOTES is already in patch 7.xx now so....... you can still do that but if you plan on raising your mmr I don't think that will work.
Because elder titan is never lacking damage, he just lacks reliable disable and a way to get close to fully utilize his aura, so items like euls, drums for mobility, and items that let him survive to stay close to key targets is imo just better.
ET is a versatile hero and lots of builds work with him. Dagon may be useful in cases where your team needs the extra burst, but this is very situational.
There's a reason why high level players build him the way they do. It's because ET is more suited for the utility role and utility is most likely what will help your team win the game in the long run. https://www.dotabuff.com/heroes/elder-titan/guides

Hello. First off, i would like to say that i haven't played Dota for nearly 3-4 years and just got back to the game this Jan. I was more of a dota 1 player because not all of the heroes were in Dota 2 back then.
Anyway, one of my top 4 mains has always been Tauren Chieftain. I've been using him as one of my best even during his first release in Dota 1... even during that time to now, i've always had dagon as my core item for him and never understood why no guide or player ever use it as a main item.
Dagon just makes Elder Titan very powerful, allowing a sure kill in his ulti on various heroes with a good amount of health. In the past, i've tried to align myself to the majority and build him the way it has been generally accepted. Nevertheless i've never had as much success with them as with my build from the beginning.
Arcane - Dagon - BKB or/and Ghost, (whatever), refresher.
I understand that this maybe a denied build by majority but this has always worked perfectly for me eversince he was released. I just don't get what other item fits him other than Dagon and just want to know why the majority thinks other items are better?
