The idea itself is good but there is a problem with it. In order for the system to work, dotabuff would have had to be able to get mmr from every player in order to display a proper bracket, which the API cannot provide unless a user has shared it.
But dotabuff can determine the difference between HS/VHS. VHS is 3700+ avg mmr.
Dotabuff doesnt determine that, the api does. Dotabuff just gathers the info. Dotabuff cant know avg mmr of any match
@Danishblunt, with less than 1% of the player sharing mmr, you can already find the bracket for every game which has at least one player that isn't hiding his information (but can hide his mmr).
Ofc, for some value, or by unluck of game, you can have some long series of games that screw everything, but then you just roll an algorithm on end data (like gpm/xpm) to re-adjust. (can also check history of game, since it's there even if the player don't share mmr)
Tedious to do, but not hard
Knowing one guy sharing mmr doesn't let u know the average and is why Dota mmr estimation sites are usually way off.
Also why is Norma skill to VHS such a small range from 0 to 3700 but on the extreme right tail u have 3700-10000
It's known that the bracket comes from valve. I'm surprised it hasn't moved. Doesn't the skill bracket supposedly reflect mmr distribution more than anything?
^it didnt move cz mmr distribution didnt change except for constant minor fluctuations
new brackets cant be added by dotabuff cz its a set of data extracted from steam api, and not so ething that dotabuff defines by itself
What if they readjust the brackets?
Normal skill: 0-3999
High skill: 4000-4999
Very high skill: 5000+
why not just show percentile for each avg mmr of the game instead of ns/hs/vhs

Many players note that the players' skills are significantly different on one particular skill bracket. This is most noticeable on Very High Skill bracket. I think that no one will argue with the fact that 4k and 7k players have completely different level of their skills :)
My suggestion to change skill brackets (the numerical values are average MMR in the game, the barriers between NS / HS / VHS are the same):
Low skill: 0-2499
Normal Skill: 2500-3199
High Skill: 3200-3699
Very High Skill: 3700-6199
Professional Skill: 6200+
