What is the difference between Hard and Roaming support? in General Discussion

I under stand that Roaming support heros get items like drums, mek, and pipe and the Hard support gets consumables but wat heros can be hard support and what heros can roaming supportif possible i would like a list.

Roaming support don't get mek wtf. Getting mek has almost nothing to do with roaming. They actually get tranq boots, urn and other cheap regen items because they don't like to go back to base. Meanwhile normal supports do pulls so they get more money so they buy more expensive stuff like drums mek and force staff.

? What....i was told some completly different things. Roaming support or Secondary support get the support items such as Mek,drums, and pipe. Hard support gets wards, smoke, dust, courier and wards the whole game and is usually underlevel the most hard support gets is a wand...boots....and possibly a urn and thats it....am i completly wrong?

a lot of ppl have no idea on how to play roaming support as they ended up being under lvld and contribute nothing later on.. so dont be that player

You don't necessarily need a roaming support. The "roaming support" you mean is actually the 4 role that generally gets more farm than 5 role but those numbers aren't decisive borders.

                SMELLY APE

the hard support IS the roaming support, the roaming support won't get any money cuz u know, he isn't pulling and will probably risk dying (position 5: crystal maiden, venomancer, vs, usually any ranged disabler would do) These are usually called "ward bitches". The other support, position 4, will stay in lane to secure carry farm. (usually intiators: Naga, Sand King, Rubick, Visage, earthshaker) As you can see these heroes benefit greatly from tier 2/3 items like force staff, blink, medallion, drums ,mek, vlads.

These guidelines aren't strict of course. If 5 has no money at all then the 4 can buy wards, smokes, etc. If 5 happens to get 2 early kills and 1-2 towers, you can get midas and you can get farm priority. Its also not uncommon that BOTH 4/5 can roam together (usually done when carry can 1v1 offlane) In this case, both of them probably won't get a lot of money, so the offlaner buys mek.

Meka isn't an item made exclusively for supports... there are mids who make it (OD, WR), offlaners (DS, WR, Timber sometimes, Furion sometimes).

just play the damn game, do what works and stop trying to find some secret method that will make you a pro gamer in a week. Even at the top there is debate over roles, heroes and item progression. ALL you need to do is do what works and the only way to figure out that is from experience. Now do not get me wrong mass games and getting 3k+ games played will not make you a better player UNLESS you reflect on each game critically (dont give a fuck about what your teammates could have done ONLY on yourself)

                      Vaeldiithia

If you have a jungling support and a babysitter than jungle is #4 and babysitter is #5 and #4 goes for mek, drums, etc and #5 goes for wards. OR you have 1 roaming and one stackandpulling AND babysitting. OR you have 2 roaming and the luckier goes for items, other for wards. OR trilane thats not actual jungling but one stays in lane, other gets farm from pulling. Or 2 dual lanes nowdays work another way.

What youve read is true, but everything is situational. The roaming support usually not go for mek, only if gets too many early kills but not enough early for midas. Or whatever.

And this isnt for normal bracket games, or most of pubs, I'm actually happy if not 2 supports start going for mek at the same time starting with buckler xD if 2 supports have headdress thats fine, one of them goes pipe or just sell it.

                          >Roaming supports need to have a slow or lock down of somekind to really make it effective.
                          >Items on roamers are usually consumables e.g. smoke, drums, salves (for quick healing when diving) etc.
                          >Most supports are actually more effective breaking out of lane and going mid or tp' rotations. It beats sitting in lane and trying to get mediocre farm as support or try (with an ineffective carry) to get kills in your lane.

Its like what Sampson mentioned, there is no formula for the perfect hero set or skill build or item build etc. Each game is unique and you need to use your experience as a support to know when to stay put, go back , and roam. Supports need to know when to make the calls and when to just not, in fact the supports run the early game with the nukes and quick rotations able to sway a game in their favor should all go well.

Suggestions and not a secret formula for good roam picks:

                          Crystal Maiden.
                          Vengeful Spirit.
                          Lich.
                          Chen + Smoke.
                          Venomancer.

Any can be played roam or quick gank supports but those are more the "tried and proven" with the strong lockdown being key to snag your target.

this match is a game in which alot of things went badly wrong and we just needed to adapt

really bad miscommunication gave us a pirate and a sven so the sven went a pure roamer build and gave all the farm to the pirate. Midgame we noticed that the pirate had no idea what he was doing as a carry role so I told the sven to take the #1 role.

Our support never built mek or pipe against a team with all nukes so I had to cover making a pipe

you just need to roll with the punches in pubs

CM is very good if you want to learn to play for position 4/5.. @sampson you play againts 4 int hero and you got sven.. lucky your sven is good enough to turn the game midgame.

It was bad picks on both sides, the problem was we gave the pirate safelane freefarm and he had 350ish GPM

                                SiLent aka Kepa

without ts group i would never play a hard support
