i might be failing hard, though i win the matches, i dont see i have that much impact until late game.
is vanguard/hood viable on him or its just waste of time? i build vanguard when i see their team is full of rightclickers lol

also, is rod of atos a good item on him? as it provides a larger mana pool and some extra health, plus the slow.

what do you have against russians

        Woof Woof

u cant do much early as bristle unless enemy throws lane against u due to bad picks or decisions

          Wink

Vanguard is a shitty item, I never get it because the 2000 gold can be spent on not stupid items.
Hood is great, you can turn it into Pipe if you wanna be a team player too.
Your most important items are AC and Heart, so after pipe/hood and treads, you would definitely go straight for that. Once you have either one of them, you will become a monster.

For mana, an early Ring of Basi, and then later on a Shiva's Guard or Scythe of Vyse do great.

Another great item for him is Abyssal blade, you would be surprised by how good bash is on BB.

Bristle is a lvl 6 hero
Once you get lvl 6 start roaming/ganking/taking towers, I love vanguards because you take almost no auto attack dmg when running away and little whilst chasing

4,2k+MMR match. Just watch the replay. Basicly you have to play agressive as fuck and yet somehow know where ur limit is as bristleback.

                  Quick maffs

I am pretty sure that vanguard is legit on bristle, hood treads gives you no hp at all.

If you dont get vanguard you need a cheap hp item ( maybe drums ) but is still not enough, i mean pro players DO get vanguard on bristle ( even on nightstalker sometimes ).

Unless you are playing bristle as 1 you will not have that much farm to get ac and heart that quickly, if you run fighting with only hood and treads you will not be tanky enough.

                    sano

Of course Vanguard is legit, lol, it's probably the best first core item for him in most situations

                      [Lk].Zano

Vanguard is a stupid item on a lot of heroes. Bristleback is not one of them. Get it soon and be aggresive. Don't make the game last too long as you are most effective during the mid-game. Otherwise you'll end up with a score like this: http://dotabuff.com/players/117998063/matches?hero=bristleback&game_mode=&match_type=real

You need the vanguard, its a must have item. Try to get kills on your lane but always remember a lowlevel bb is easy to kill, you need items and specially levels to be tanky.
Boots, vanguard are your coreitems you don't need more to snowball, get ac after that or heavens its a really nice item for you too. But you should always work on an ac if noone else is doing it, so far the best item for bb you can get from my point of view.
Your strongest weapon is your quill spray stack and nothing else during early and midgame, it falls of a bit during the lategame. The more time has passed the more your goo becomes important. Max quill first after that passive and last goo ( get a point in goo at lv4) always skill your ult.

PS: funny that most ppl writing posts here have horrible stats with bb.

Bristleback is getting picked and banned more often in competitive scene now, he's a legit hero on the hard lane. The pros usually get treads + vanguard as the first two items, this will bring you to about 1.5k hp early. Third item and onward is situational.

Halberd, pipe, heart, AC are legit. Not really a fan of radiance....it's powerful on BB but the buildup is just so bad for an early fighting hero!

                                beast player

max passive go to the offlane gegenore

I'm not the best Bristleback but I think my Bristleback which played only in solo queue with 72% winrate is pretty good. You can watch some replays to study how it should be played. Most of my lost matches, my team sucks badly or they rat us as a stack.

                                    My recommended items

                                    Core :

                                    2. Power treads
                                    3. Vanguard (Sometimes you go for Hood or just planeswalker cloak too, especially when u're against Lion/Lina/Pugna)
                                    4. Assault Cuirass
                                    5. Heart of Terrasque

                                    Situational :
                                    1. Stygian Desolator
                                    2. Mjolnir
                                    3. Eul Scepter
                                    4. Shiva's Guard
                                    5. Blade mail

P.S. To all those noobs who play bristleback and weaver without a Magic stick, please don't play them. Go back to your sniper. Thx
                                    P.S.2 Bristleback doesn't need RoB, l2p

Yeah, if enemies are in potato brackets who rarely use any skill and save them for kill stealing then you don't need it.

but whats BB role nowadays? in the past ive seen pros picking him as a carry (probably in a push strat). he should be played at offlane now? i tend to play him as a carry indeed, thats what i might be doing wrong

vanguard is completely legit on BB. You just need to get it relatively fast and then play aggressively.

Going for meka is also an option. You can even go for a casual soulbooster in some cases depending on if you want early arcanes for spam.

Point is, the reddit circlejerk against vanguard is stale.

                                                              Dire Wolf

Like others have said, vanguard is good on him. Hp regen is needed, hp is needed, vanguard gives both.

Your other main issues are going to be mana to keep his ult stacked and quill spam and you want attack speed to maximize that extra dmg from ult. Thus I often go an early ring of bas and then assault curiass.

Also you need to realize bristle is not very good in lane prior to level 6. He simply doesn't have enough mana to spam quill, and quill's dmg isn't that good then, his auto dmg sucks, and his bristleback ability isn't maxed out yet. Just keep last hitting and backing off, then when you hit 6 you can get really aggressive and roam/gank.

I usually spec 1/2/2/1 at level 6, then max out quill and bristleback before goo. Goo stacks so more isn't really needed. I usually build ring of bas, treads, vanguard then blade mail or assault curiass.

You also need to realize bristle is a semi carry/tank who needs farm to be effective. Don't pick him on a team that has 3 other carries, you won't have enough farm. Ideally he is solo lane or with a pure support.

                                                                Zenoth

I like to leave Goo at level 1 unless they have particularly tanky heroes on their team - the slow doesn't scale particularly well and you only get added armour reduction at the 3rd level.

You won't be snowballing or stomping prepared teams with bristleback unless they have a weak safe laner and have supports that are forced to rotate. BB really benefits from the early levels from a solo lane and will be able to quickly dominate most matchups.

                                                                  Strongmind

http://dotabuff.com/players/134203835/matches?hero=bristleback&game_mode=&match_type=real You can check mine 2 last replays as a Bristleback I m stomping with him pretty much almost every game.
